Dr. Pamela Ray

Hi! My name is Pamela Ray, and I would like to welcome you to my class. Some of you may already know me, but I’ll tell you a little more about myself. This will be my thirtieth year of teaching, and I cannot imagine having another career. I have been privileged to teach at the high school and technical college levels, and I am certified in English, drama, Advanced Placement Literature, Pre-AP English 1 and 2, and gifted education.  

My goal is for every student to become a better writer, reader, and critical thinker and to leave this class with a feeling of accomplishment. Every student is capable of doing well, yet we all learn in different ways. Therefore, while students will be honing their reading and writing skills, they may be asked to create videos, participate in group work, have an intellectual dialogue with peers, work through interactive tutorials or games, and complete other activities rather than have a strictly “read this text and write about it” class.  

While sometimes I'm most at home with a good novel, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my pets. I have Brizo, my Newfoundland; Leda, a lab/boxer mix rescue; Shelley, my tuxedo cat; and Daenerys, my cross-eyed Siamese. When I get a new pet, friends joke, "Which literary character will you choose this time?"

Other silly facts about me are I love Star Wars and had a wonderful father who sat through "A New Hope" seven times. I am also a Trekkie and have seen every episode of the franchise, except those in animation. I cannot claim to be a Whovian, but I do love Dr. Who.
