Grammar

Parallelism in writing means that similar parts in a sentence (2 or more) must have the same structure. 
All similar parts are balanced. 
Using parallel structures makes your  writing clearer and smoother .
 
Examples:
  • Easy come, easy go
  • I came,I saw, I conquered.
  • To err is human; to forgive divine.
  • Voice: characteristic of an action verb that indicates whether the subject is performing or receiving the action.
  • Active voice: subject performs the action
  • Passive voice :subject receives the action
 
Active voice Passive Voice
Raymond hit the baseball. The baseball was hit by Raymond.
Ernest Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea. The Old Man and the Sea was written by Ernest Hemingway.
The whole class passed the exam. The exam was passed by the whole class.
  • Clause: A group of words with a subject and a verb. 
  • Independent Clause: can stand alone as a complete sentence.
  • Dependent Clause: has to be connected to a sentence 
 
Dependent clauses begin with subordinating conjunctions. Look at he partial list below

Sometimes clause are used as a single part of speech.
  • Noun Clause:Whoever ate the last piece of cake owes me.
  • Adjective Clause:The phone that someone left in the cafeteria was broken.
  • Adverb Clause :She cheered because her brother won the award.
