letter e with flowers

Spanish 3 - MLA 345-346

August 3: We started today with discussing everything in the open house letter, including the
grading policy change made by the county. Where it says 70/30 on your letter, it is now 60/40.
We discussed class rules, especially that phones must be up front in the safety zone from bell
to bell and no headphones/earbuds are allowed at all during the day. Additionally we discussed
what will be available on this website and Google Classroom. Please make sure you join the
appropriate Spanish 3 class period on Google Classroom, Remind for Spanish 3 and Quizlet
Spanish 3. Codes/link are available on the home page of this site. We used the remaining time
to complete a survey in English that we will use for conversations later in Spanish and to review
applicable vocabulary for answering those questions. Please maintain those in your notebook.
All students are asked to organize their notebooks in a 3 ring binder with the following sections:
  Vocabulary/Verbs, Notes, Practice.

August 4: We used the first few questions on the surveys we completed to review related vocab
and remember how to say and answer those questions in Spanish. We will continue with this,
so please keep this in your notebook.

August 7: We started on our phonetics unit today. We went over the alphabet and the sounds of
the letters in Spanish. We will have a quiz over this information soon. Please keep the notes you
took as we discussed everything today in your notebook. Notes will also be available on Google
Classroom, but remember all students are required to have their notes and vocabulary available
  in their notebook during class.

August 8: We continued discussing the alphabet, sounds of the Spanish letters and we also
practiced with spelling by listening. We added the C and G chart to our notes and discussed
how understanding these patterns raises the percentage of Spanish words we can spell by
hearing to a very high percent. We will have an quiz over the alphabet and one over the C and
G Chart soon. Please review our information each day towards those assessments.

August 9: We reviewed all the information we have discussed about the alphabet and special
spelling quirks. We practiced spelling by listening. We added the rules for intonation, stress
rules today. We now have all the tools for being able to spell most any Spanish word by hearing
it and being able to pronounce any Spanish word correctly without help. We will continue to
practice with this information. We will have an alphabet quiz on Friday. We will have a quiz over
the C and G Chart on Tuesday. Shortly after that we will have a final assessment over this
  phonetics unit.

August 10: We reviewed all of our concepts for pronunciation and intonation. Members of the
provided statements about the different groupings found in the alphabet as a review for the
quiz tomorrow. We continued practicing with spelling by hearing, including listening for normal
  stress and accents.

August 11: We took our alphabet quiz today. We reviewed the answers. We used our survey
again and learned to ask a couple more of those questions in Spanish and we shared our
answers to those questions in Spanish.

August 14: We copied a list of the English syllables I will use for the quiz tomorrow that represent
the Spanish syllables you have to know from the C and G Chart. Please make sure you readily
recognize which syllable I am asking for on the quiz by knowing how I will spell the English.
After we copied that list, we worked in pairs to study for about 5 minutes. Then, we  practiced
listening to random words to determine regular and accented stress. Following this, we broke
into pairs again, taking turns using random words from the Spanish glossary in our book, to get
our partners to spell and stress the word we chose correctly. This required all of us to pronounce
carefully and use careful intonation as well to communicate the word correctly to our partners.
Be ready for your C and G chart quiz tomorrow. See GC or Quizlet for the practice set or use
  the list we made today.

August 15: We took the C and G chart quiz. We used random words from the Spanish glossary.
Individual students tried to pronounce their word and stress it correctly to challenge the class
to spell it as closely as possible and hear the stress. After each challenge we checked the
answer and discussed any issues anyone was having. We will have a test over pronunciation
and intonation on Thursday. You will be required to: underline or accent where the stress is in
the words given, make a spelling correction in the words given after listening to how it is
pronounced and spell by hearing and underline/accent as needed for the stress.

August 16: We took turns pronouncing random Spanish words from the board, doing our best to
use all the correct letter sounds and stressing it correctly. We reviewed each part of tomorrow's
test, what is required and how it will be presented. We practiced each task, especially the final
task where we put everything together to spell and hear the stress. See your test assignment
on GC for all the materials you can use to be ready for the test and a description of the tasks
on the test. We also continued with our survey, question 8.

August 17: We took our summative assessment on the pronunciation and intonation concepts
we have been working with. We will move on to review of present tense next week.

August 18: We reviewed the Spanish-speaking countries and capitals and where they are. We
also read and discussed some myths and legends in the culture section of our book. We will
start our present tense review next week.

August 21: We started working on a vocabulary review over basic vocabulary learned in Spanish
1 and 2. These lists will be a resource in your notebook to help with future activities, etc. We
will also have a list of Spanish 1 and 2 verbs to review. We covered all of the vocabulary
on the first page and the first group on the back of that page today. We will continue tomorrow.
These lists are also on Google Classroom and there are corresponding Quizlet sets already on
  our Spanish 3 Quizlet class.

August 22: We continued working on our basic vocabulary list today, finishing the rest of the
second page. We will continue tomorrow and the verb list will be distributed tomorrow. These
are on GC and on Quizlet broken into separate sets.

August 23: We finished discussing and defining the basic vocabulary lists today. We will go on
to Spanish 1 and 2 review verbs. Each class was asked to think about these basic vocabulary
lists and decide which groups we need to study and take quizzes over.

August 24: We decided which groups on the basic vocabulary list we were least familiar with and
that was body parts and just a few words from the other lists. First vocabulary quiz will be
Monday over the body parts and 6 of the other words we didn't immediately recognize from a
couple other groups on the list. See GC for those details. Next Wednesday we will have a quiz
over all the number words. We started working on our list of Spanish 1 and 2 verbs. We should
  finish those tomorrow.

August 25: We continued with our verb list definitions. You can finish those by using the sets on
Quizlet or GC under the quiz assignment. Remember that we have a quiz on Monday over
body parts and those few extra words. See GC for the exact details.

August 28: We studied for a couple minutes and then took our quiz over body parts plus a few
other basic words. We finished up the first page of the verb list. In some classes we had time
to practice using the verbs with a subject. Remember that Wednesday we will have a quiz over
number words. You may use the combo words for 16-19 and 21-29 as bonuses.

August 29: We started our present tense review with terms: infinitive, conjugation and stem. We
continued on by reviewing the different boxes on the verb chart and how to use each box. We
reviewed the conjugation patterns for AR, ER and IR. We also discussed stem-changing verbs,
where they will change, what to do with two e's in the stem, boot verb/ankle boot verb, how the
three main stem changes only occur in present tense and can be part of any type of infinitive.
We practiced with subjects and verbs by people on each side of the room challenging someone
on the other side. Don't forget your quiz tomorrow over number words. See GC for details.

August 30: We studied for a couple minutes to get centered and then took our quiz over the
number words. We reviewed some facts about using numbers and Spanish. We also reviewed
what we discussed about verbs yesterday. Then we detoured to Spanish nouns and reviewing
the gender of specific groups of nouns.

August 31: We finished reviewing nouns, gender of specific groups of nouns, plurals, etc. We will
have a quiz tomorrow over Spanish 1 Review Verbs set 1. See GC for details.

September 1: We studied for a couple minutes, then took our quiz over Spanish 1 Review Verbs
set 1. Set 2 will be next Wednesday and set 3 will be next Friday. Please follow the calendar
for all the Review Vocabulary Quizzes on GC, all details as to what to study for what day are
on there already, plus linked sets.

September 5: We reviewed all that we have discussed about present tense verbs, stem changes, and nouns. We
took notes on and reviewed irregular yo verbs in the present tense.

September 6: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused and then took our quiz over Spanish 1 Review Verbs
set 2. We will have a quiz over set 3 on Friday. We did some practice with irregular yo verbs - in the way that we
will be tested on the summative test for this present tense unit. We discussed the answers to the sections we
  completed.

September 7: We finished practicing with irregular yo verbs and continued to a practice with stem-changing verbs.
Both of these activities were presented as they will be on the final test over present tense. We will have a notes
test next Tuesday over the basics of verb use and nouns in Spanish. See GC for details. The tentative date for the
summative test over the present tense is September 27. Please remember your quiz tomorrow over Spanish 1
  Review Verbs set 3.

Setpember 8: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused and then took our quiz over Spanish 1 Review Verbs,
set 3. We will have set 4 on Monday and the notes test over basics of conjugation, stem-changing verbs, nouns,
and irregular yo verbs. We practiced today, specifically practiced with questions that will be asked on that test.

September 11: We studied for a few minutes to focus and then took a quiz over Spanish 1 Verbs set 4. We will have
a test over the information we have taken notes on previously: notes on how to conjugate verbs with definitions
of infinitive, conjugation, stem, stem-changing, etc., nouns, and irregular yo verbs. See GC for very specific
  details.

September 12: We studied for a couple minutes to focus and then took our test. We will have a very short quiz over
some really familiar Spanish 1 verbs tomorrow - Spanish 1 Review Verbs Set 5 and then continue practicing with
the infinitive phrases we took notes on yesterday.

September 13: We studied for a couple minutes to focus and then took a quiz over Spanish 1 Verbs Set 5. We will
have a quiz on Friday over Set 6. We finished writing one example for each infinitive phrase and we also took
notes on other ways we use the infinitive in Spanish, as a gerund.

September 14: We did a practice exercise with the infinitive phrases in the way those will be presented on the final
test. We discussed the answers to those. We started to define the rest of the Spanish 2 verbs on the back of our
verb list. We will have a quiz tomorrow over Spanish 1 Verbs, Set 6. We start with the Spanish 2 verbs on Monday.

September 15: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused, then we took a vocab quiz over Spanish 1 Review
Verbs, Set 6. We played a Kahoot on infinitive phrases which should have helped you see which phrases you
know and which ones you don't. Please be ready for that summative assessment.

September 18: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused, then took a vocab quiz over Spanish 2 Review
Verbs, Set 1. We will have a quiz over set 2 on Wednesday. We moved on from infinitive phrases today and
  started notes on reflexive verbs.

September 19: We finished defining all of the verbs on our list. We took notes over the different types of reflexive
verbs that are used in Spanish. These notes are posted under the summative test assignment on GC. Some
classes were also able to do some practice sentences as well.

September 20: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took our quiz over Spanish 2 Verbs, Set 2.
The next two quizzes have all of our reflexive verbs on them, so please make sure you study well for those. There
will be a section using reflexives on the summative test that you likely will not do well on if you don't learn these
verbs. We did a little more practice with the reflexive verbs and then started a quick review on what to do with
  verbs like gustar.

September 21: We finished our notes on gustar-like verbs and did an exercise with the types of sentences we will
see on the test. We discussed the answers to the exercise afterwards. Don't forget your vocabulary quiz tomorrow
over Spanish 2 Verbs set 3. Set 4 will be on Monday.

September 22: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused and then took our vocab quiz over Spanish 2 Verbs
Set 3. We will take a quiz on Set 4 on Monday. Quizlet sets are available on the app and on GC. Some classes
had to finish up with the exercise on gustar we started or did yesterday. We also looked at a visual representation
of the format for sentences using gustar-like verbs. Don't forget that our summative over these present tense
verb concepts is next Wednesday, September 27. See test assignment for notes, practice exercises and related
  Quizlet sets.

September 25: We studied for a couple minutes to focus and then we took our quiz over Spanish 2 Verbs Set 4. We
are done with our review verb quizzes now. We reviewed the specifics for Wednesday's test. Please see GC for
a detailed description of what will be on the test, all related notes, related Quizlet sets and a copy of the exercises
we have been doing in class to practice for the test. The last thing we needed to cover was verbs that we confuse.
We did an exercise focused on that today. Please make sure you are reviewing already for the test Wednesday.

September 26: We had three choices today to prepare for our present tense summative tomorrow: studying
individually (laptops were available), studying quietly with a partner, and practice using white boards led by me.
We divided up as everyone desired and used the class period to get ready for our test tomorrow. Please see GC
to be absolutely sure you know what will be on the test and how you will have to perform with that information.
Several resources are uploaded there to help you prepare.

September 27: We took our test over the present tense verb concepts we have been reviewing for several weeks.

September 28: We took some notes/examples on what ser and estar are used for and practiced applying those
concepts to random adjectives each person in the class suggested.

September 29: We did some practice sentences with ser and estar today and discussed the answers, specifying
why we chose the particular verb for each sentence. We reviewed demonstrative adjectives and how to make them
into pronouns quickly after that. We will have a test over ser and estar on Tuesday, October 3. One section will
be writing simple sentences like the ones we did in class today and the other section will be as we practice on
  Monday.

October 2: We practiced two different ways with ser and estar today towards our test tomorrow. You will be expected
to write simple sentences using the correct verb, either ser or estar, as we practiced on Friday and the other
section of the test will be presented like either one of the activities we did today where you had to say which verb
and why. Please be prepared. The activities we did Friday and today, plus the notes, etc are on GC. I will also
include notes on the demonstrative adjectives there, since we took those notes Friday while we were doing that
activity. Those who need to raise their present tense test grade have today and tomorrow after school to get that
  done.

October 3: We took the ser and estar test today. It is the last day to re-take the present tense test. We will start
  with preterite and imperfect tomorrow.

October 4: We started working with the two types of past tense, preterite and imperfect, that we covered over a long
period of time last year in Spanish 2. We will review them quickly and try to fix any issues we have in using them
before we start our Day of the Dead project. Please start memorizing right away the endings for preterite which
were in the notes we took today. To start us off, we learned two children's songs, one that was all preterite and one
that was majority imperfect. After we learned and sang those a few times, we read the Spanish version of The
Very Hungry Caterpillar, which is a story written with no other verb tenses except preterite and imperfect. After
reading it, we discussed how each verb tense was employed in the story. After those activities, we started taking
notes on both tenses. We only finished preterite today.

October 5: We reviewed what we discussed yesterday about the preterite, including singing the songs and thinking
about how preterite and imperfect were used in the songs and in the book we read. We continued with our notes
over the imperfect tense. Everyone who was present has a copy of the irregular preterite verbs and we will discuss
tomorrow how those will be divided up for quizzes starting next week. In the meantime, you need to memorize the
endings for both imperfect and preterite regular verbs and also the three irregular verbs in the imperfect.

October 6: We discussed how the irregular preterite and imperfect verbs will be divided up for the three quizzes
starting next week. See GC and Quizlet for the sets and what days we will quiz on those. We took time to go over
the list and discuss ways to make learning them easier and to make sure everyone understood some of the
information on the irregular preterite sheet we have in our notebook. After that we reviewed and chanted the
endings for both tenses and also reviewed some ways to make learning them easier. Then we took a look a
different way to think of the differences between the two tenses. See GC for a copy of that document, but also you
will get a printed copy for your notebook next week.

October 11: We reviewed the different uses of the preterite and imperfect tenses and discussed how we will apply
them to the Day of the Dead essay we will write about our chosen subject and the oral presentation we will give
as well. We chanted verb endings for both tenses and practiced the irregular conjugations of ser and ir in the
imperfect. Those are in your notes, the preterite irregulars are on the handout you received last week. Please
see GC for the schedule for the irregulars quizzes. The first one is tomorrow over preterite and imperfect verb
endings for regular verbs, irregular preterite conjugations for ir, ser, estar, tener, decir, traer and the irregular
imperfect conjugations for ir and ser. See set 1 on GC or Quizlet for all you need to know for the quiz tomorrow.

October 12: We reviewed a bit to find focus, then took the quiz over set 1 of the irregulars and endings. We will have
set 2 and set 3 next Monday and Tuesday. See GC for details. We discussed the story we read yesterday.

October 13: We finished discussing the storyline of our legend. Then we started looking at the ways in which the
preterite and the imperfect tenses were used throughout the story. We did a Gallery Walk activity and each group
went to the five stations that were set up and worked together to decide what tense the highlighted verbs were
in and why the tense was appropriate at that place in the story. Hopefully this activity and the others we have done
are helping everyone to see which tense to use in different situations and that when we look at authentic literature,
songs, children's stories, etc., we see these tenses being used as explained in our notes from class. Don't forget
about our second quiz on Monday over irregulars set 2. Make sure you know everything on the set either on GC
  or on Quizlet.

October 16: We studied for a couple minutes for focus, reviewed a little together, and then took quiz 2 of the
preterite and imperfect endings, second row of irregular preterite verbs, ver in the imperfect and what querer
means in the preterite. Please study everything on set 3 for Wednesday's quiz. We moved the third quiz to
Wednesday due to PSAT tomorrow. Please see GC stream for room assignments for PSAT and also where you
will split off if you are not taking the test and your teacher is monitoring it. We also started some written practice
using both regular and irregular preterite verbs.

October 17: Most of us were taking the PSAT today, so we really didn't make progress today. We reviewed what
will be on quiz 3 of the irregulars tomorrow.

October 18: We studied for a couple minutes for focus, then reviewed quickly together before taking irregulars
quiz 3. Everyone is expected to know these verbs for whatever activities we do from now on for the rest of this
unit. If you did not learn any of these verbs or were not successful on any of these quizzes, please go back and
learn them. You will need them. We continued the activity we started on Monday using preterite verbs. We will
  finish that activity tomorrow.

October 19: We finished the preterite exercise we have been working on. We discussed in detail the project for
Day of the Dead. We will write an essay and do an oral presentation. All details are on GC and you will have a
paper copy of everything tomorrow. BE SURE to have chosen a subject for your essay/presentation - must be
connected to you personally, either family or friend/family friend AND bring your collected information to class on
Monday. We will start writing rough drafts on Monday next week. If you come to class with no information, you will
be behind a day. You will only write in class and turn in your work every day.

October 20: We worked a little while on the worksheet with repetitious practice in writing verbs in present, preterite
and imperfect. We had a class discussion about Day of the Dead, watched a little video and looked at some
pictures. Paper copies were distributed of everything we discussed about the essay and the oral presentation for
our project - we have talked about all these expectations in class with these documents on the board during that
discussion, we have a paper copy of that information in our notebooks and both documents are on GC. There
should not be any confusion about what is expected and plenty of reference materials to find the information again.

October 23: We started writing our rough drafts for the Day of the Dead project. We will hopefully finish rough drafts
by Wednesday in order to leave a couple days for peer editing errors and getting a fairly error free final copy by
Monday. Presentations will start on Wednesday, next week, November 1, which starts the actual Day of the Dead
  observance.

October 24: We discussed some common errors from everyone's work yesterday in hopes of avoiding these errors
in your work today and tomorrow. After that discussion, we continued to work on rough drafts in hopes of finishing
  those tomorrow.

October 25: We continued working on completing rough drafts. Make it a goal to finish that rough draft tomorrow
as quickly as possible and leave time to start editing. By Monday, everyone must have turned in a clean copy for
  a final grade.

October 26: We continued working on rough drafts and editing for our essays. Final clean copy must be completed
by end of class on Monday.

October 27: We continued working on rough drafts or editing. Clean final copy due Monday by end of class.

October 30: We finished rough drafts and final copies today. Must prepare for presentations on Wednesday. You
may not use notes during your presentation. You must include a visual and say something in Spanish about it.
This is the only thing you won't have from your essay. Make sure you have a picture of your essay to work from.

October 31: We spent class time preparing for our oral presentations. You must be ready to present by tomorrow.
You may not be called tomorrow, but you will lose points if you are called and not prepared.

November 1: We started presenting today for Day of the Dead. If you did not present today, make sure you are
completely ready tomorrow. If you need me to post a photo on the board, send it to my email or to Remind by
this afternoon, please, so I can have it ready to go before tomorrow morning.

November 2: We continued with presentations today and will have a few left to do tomorrow as well. Please be
absolutely ready to present tomorrow if you have not presented yet.

November 3: We continued with presentations today. Some classes are finished and some have a few more for
Monday. Please be ready if you did not present yet. We will be moving on to review the future and conditional
  tenses on Monday.

November 6: We finished all presentations today and our summary discussions about all the presentations using
the notes we took while listening. We started the future and conditional tenses today in all classes except first
  period.

November 7: We finished taking notes on the future and conditional tenses. We started a practice exercise with the
future tense focusing on creating responses of what someone will do in a certain situation. We will have a TEST
over the endings for both future and conditional tenses, the irregulars for both tenses and how to use the normal
verbs in both tenses on Thursday, November 9. We also discussed at length how the test items will be presented.
GC also has details and attached Quizlet sets to practice the irregulars for both tenses.

November 8: We reviewed the notes we took over the future and conditional tenses, the 12 irregular verbs and how
to use the regular verbs. We finished the activity we started yesterday and then continued on to a worksheet with
more practice using both tenses. Be prepared for the test tomorrow over the endings, the irregulars, how to use
the regulars, what each tense says.

November 9: We studied for a couple minutes to get focused and then took a test over the information in the notes
we took on future and conditional tenses, irregular verbs and how to use the regular verbs. We continued working
on the worksheet from yesterday and discussed the answers for the first ten sentences.

November 13: We continued working with the future and conditional tenses with our practice worksheet. We will
have a test on Thursday of this week to show how we are able to use either tense in writing sentences. We will
practice the way we will be tested tomorrow and Wednesday. You will be making your own sentences for this
assessment. You will have to use a variety of verbs, so you should start now with reviewing your verb list.

November 14: We finished the exercise with the conditional tense on our worksheet. We tried really hard to use
laptops to practice like the test will be presented on Thursday using Padlet, but the laptops would not cooperate.
We wasted the rest of class trying to get the computers to work right.

November 15: We practiced making up our own sentences using the future and the conditional tenses in response
to a given situation. Our test over writing with the future and conditional will be tomorrow. See GC for test details.

November 16: We took our summative on writing with the future and conditional tenses today.

November 17: We watched portions of The Book of Life that relate to Day of the Dead since we had to move on
after presentations for our project. We will fit in another day to watch the other relevant sections later.

November 27: We copied a list of cue words that help identify what tense we should be using. We will have a quiz
over that list on Wednesday. There are many words/phrases on this list that we are familiar with, but there have
been some issues with them on recent activities we have done. These will also help you choose your answers
more readily on the exam. We discussed what the "perfect tenses" are in English and what components are
necessary to create them, then we took notes on how to do the same in Spanish. This unit should be fairly simple
for us, having just covered the future and the conditional tenses. We will write the irregular past participles
tomorrow and have a quiz on those Friday. We will have an assessment that will require you to conjugate the
verb haber in the present, imperfect, future and conditional tenses, explain how the past participle for normal
verbs is created and write some sentences using each of those tenses. The date for that final assessment is not
set yet. It will be next week.

November 28: We reviewed the notes we took yesterday over the perfect tenses. We added the list of irregular
past participles that we need to know to be able to function fully with this structure. We will have a quiz over the
cue words tomorrow - see GC and Quizlet for list and Quizlet set. We will have a quiz over the irregular past
participles on Friday this week. Know the past participles and what they mean for the quiz. See GC and Quizlet
for the Quizlet set on those.

November 29: We finished our practice sheet today and discussing the answers to each section. Remember, you
will write in the same way on the summative as you did on that practice sheet. We also have a second practice
sheet for tomorrow. We have a quiz over only the irregular past participles on Friday and a summative over the
perfect tenses on Tuesday next week. Please see GC for details on how you will be assessed.

November 30: We practiced further writing with the different perfect tenses today, finishing at least 20 of the simple
sentences on our worksheet. We will quickly finish the rest tomorrow after our vocabulary quiz on the irregular
past participles. Please study to be able to provide the infinitive and the past participle because that is what you
will have to do on the quiz, e.g. made, done = hacer - hecho. Summative will be next Tuesday. See GC for test
  details.

December 1: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took the vocabulary quiz over the irregular
past participles. We finished the second practice sheet and discussed the answers. See test assignment on GC
to be ready for the summative on perfect tenses next Tuesday.

December 4: We practiced using Padlet to post sentences we created and to get feedback on our errors. We will
have a test tomorrow over writing with the perfect tenses. A new practice worksheet has been added to the test
assignment on Google Classroom in case you want more practice that we haven't already done in class.

December 5: We studied for a couple minutes for focus, then took our test over the perfect tenses. We will move on
to some cultural information about Christmas in Mexico, which will be in the culture section of the exam.

December 6: We watched a video about Christmas traditions in Mexico, taking notes on what events happen on
certain days and on some related vocabulary. This information will be included in the culture section of your exam
with true/false statements and matching dates to events.

December 7: We watched a couple more scenes from the Christmas video that described a New Year's Eve
tradition and a unique tradition in Oaxaca on Dec 23. After the video, most classes elected to learn a few
Christmas carols in Spanish - anyone who does not participate in celebrating Christmas was allowed to not
sing the songs. Everyone received a paper copy of the review checklist for the mid year exam. It is posted on GC
and now you have it on paper as well. We did add something not printed on the list: be able to answer questions
about stress rules and c and g chart. It has been added to the online version and everyone was told to add it
  to their paper as well.

December 8: We watched a few more scenes from Book of Life to remember the traditions associated with Day of
the Dead. We will have a culture section on the exam that will focus on Day of the Dead and the Christmas
traditions we discussed from the Christmas video. Please look over the review checklist for the exam and be
prepared to ask any questions to clarify next week. We will work with por and para on Monday. Also, any re-takes
or make ups have to be completed by Wednesday, December 13.

December 11: We took notes on the prepositions por and para; several of the uses we have already discussed in
our practice activities. We did a practice on por and para as it will appear on the exam.

December 12: We reviewed por and para by doing another exercise similar to how it will appear on the exam. After
that practice, we went over all the key concepts listed on your Review Checklist for the Mid Year Exam. We all
have a copy of that and it is posted online as well. A list of Christmas in Mexico vocabulary, dates and events is
also attached there in case you missed any of that video and the discussion about it.

December 13: We went over a list of Christmas related vocabulary and we did a Christmas word search.

December 14: We took first period exam today. Second and third periods take their exam tomorrow. Lots of
materials on GC for preparation.  Happy Holidays!

December 15: We took second and third period exams today. Seventh period did not have class. Prep materials
  available on GC. Happy Holidays!

December 18: Anyone who showed up for seventh period today had time to study and prepare for the exam
tomorrow. Otherwise we did not have any other Spanish 3 classes today.

December 19: Seventh period took their exam today. Happy Holidays!!

January 4: We discussed in Spanish the highlights of the holiday break. We started our journey into the subjunctive
mood with commands. We took notes on the four types of commands we will be using. Tomorrow everyone will
have a copy of the irregular commands to start memorizing. There are Quizlet sets to help you. See GC for
test assignment on the irregulars. Memorizing these is very important because after you memorize this information,
you will know how to make all the subjunctive verbs we will use for this semester. The test over the irregulars will
be next Wednesday. Bonus points will be given for being able to tell how each type of command is formed.

January 5: We discussed the "nutshell" version of the notes we took on how to form the different types of
commands, which also served to review that information. We finished some other notes about where to put
object pronouns with affirmative and with negative commands and some particular things that are special about
nosotros commands. Some classes were able to start a practice exercise today. Everyone has a paper copy of the
irregulars chart. It is also on GC. We discussed some things that need extra attention on there and some patterns
that make things easier to remember. We also discussed how the test will be presented next Wednesday. All those
details are on the test assignment on GC.

January 8: We reviewed how to make each type of command, with what situations each type of command is
appropriate and examples of a regular verb, a reflexive verb to practice pronoun placement/spelling changes and
an IR stem-changing verb to practice the additional stem change in nosotros. We did practice exercises with
affirmative tú, negative tú and started on usted affirmative and negative. We will continue that practice tomorrow.
Don't forget your test over the irregulars on Wednesday - bonus points for knowing how to form each type of
command and what "opposite vowel" means. As we discussed when we started commands, our summative will
require you to know what type of command is appropriate for given situations and write your own sentences for
that situation in the correct format. Required: know how to make each type of command, know what they are
appropriate for and know the irregulars (and of course, verbs to use).

January 9: We continued working with each type of command, finishing or close to finishing the practice exercises
in every class. We reviewed how to make each type of command as well. Tomorrow we will have a test over the
irregular commands and a ten point bonus is available for those who can show how to make each type of
command. Please take this test seriously, as we will be using these irregular spellings for all of our journey
through the subjunctive mood. The chart of irregulars and the related Quizlet sets are on Google Classroom on
the test assignment, and set are, of course, on Quizlet.

January 10: We took our test over the irregular commands today.

January 11: We practiced writing commands for different situations, as we will on the final summative next
  Wednesday.

January 12: We watched an episode of a level appropriate sitcom in Spanish today. The Spanish subtitles were
on the screen so we could watch for and listen for the numerous commands used in their dialogue. Don't forget
our test on Wednesday. See GC for details.

January 16: We had a choice today of whatever activity would help us be ready for the test tomorrow. Some
students worked in pairs creating situations and writing command sentences for them. Some worked with white
boards with the situations I gave them. We will have our final assessment on commands tomorrow. See GC for
  details.

January 17: We took our final test over commands today.

January 18: We started discussing our next situations that require the use of subjunctive verbs, cabeza and
corazón. We mostly listened and watched today, but we did take a few preliminary notes. Please be in class going
forward as much as possible so you don't miss crucial explanations and plan to catch up with me if you do. We
did an exploratory exercise to help us basically understand what types of verbs fit under each of those headings
and we saw examples of the rules for each group. Posts will follow in Google Classroom.

January 19: We reviewed everything we discussed yesterday as we took notes on Cabeza and Corazón. These are
also available on GC if you were absent. We watched either the rest of the first episode of our show or the first
half of the second episode today.

January 22: We used some exercises posted on the board to learn how to analyze when to use cabeza and corazón
with the subjunctive. We will complete the activity we started tomorrow. Please study for the vocabulary quizzes we
will have this week over cabeza verbs (Weds) and corazón verbs (Fri). Sets available on GC and Quizlet.

January 23: We finished the activity from yesterday focusing on figuring out what belonged in the blanks in order
to make the given sentence work with either subjunctive or not according to the rules. We wrote down all the
verbs on the cabeza vocabulary list for the quiz tomorrow. Since we know a lot of them and some are cognates, we
will have that quiz tomorrow. We will write the corazón list tomorrow and that quiz will be Friday. Some classes
were able to watch the rest of the second episode of our show (made for Spanish learners). We also have a
practice sheet that we will use tomorrow.

January 24: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took the quiz over cabeza verbs. The corazón verbs
quiz will be Friday this week. We made sure everyone has the list for the quiz on Friday and then we started
discussing the practice exercises on the worksheet given yesterday. We will finish with that tomorrow.

January 25: We reviewed all the basics about subjunctive and cabeza/corazón before going on to a practice
focusing on making up our own sentences with both. We will have a quiz tomorrow over the corazón verb list. See
GC or Quizlet for the set. If you were not in class when we wrote the entire list on Wednesday, make sure you get
the list from the Quizlet set. The list we saw on the first day is not the entire list.

January 26: We studied for a couple minutes to focus and then took our quiz over the corazón verbs/expressions.
We reviewed the basics of the cabeza and corazón situations again and discussed any confusion or questions
related. We looked at a way that corazón sentences appear differently in conversational Spanish. We will have
a notes test, meaning questions based on the instructions in your notes, on Tuesday, January 30.

January 29: We practiced translating some sentences that either did or did not have subjunctive in the second
clause towards practicing for the section on our test tomorrow that will require us to decide the same thing. We
won't be writing the sentence on the test, but you will have to follow the same thinking steps that we practiced
today. Details on GC explain exactly what you need to know and be able to do on the test.

January 30: We took our notes test on cabeza and corazón today.

January 31: We discussed errors on the notes test yesterday and cleared up any confusion or questions. We
finished discussing the answers to the activity we started on Monday and then practiced imagining how the use
of cabeza or corazón with subjunctive could happen in everyday conversations.

February 1: We used a Kahoot to work with cabeza and corazón today.

February 2: We watched another episode of our series today, watching and listening for the use of commands and
  cabeza/corazón.

February 5: We practiced using individual white boards today to get individual feedback on how we are using
cabeza and corazón with the subjunctive.

February 6: We worked in groups using a practice sheet to decide when and when not to use cabeza or corazón.

February 7: We finished discussing the last two sections on the worksheet that we started yesterday. We started a
new practice activity where everything was mixed together and you had to figure out what rule to apply. We will
finish that over the next couple of days. We also will learn one more thing about cabeza and corazón tomorrow.
We will have a summative assessment over writing with cabeza and corazón. See details on the test assignment
  on GC.

February 8: We did a few more practice sentences writing with cabeza and corazón. We took brief notes on a new
concept that is an extension of cabeza and corazón, adjective clauses. We also practiced with those.

February 9: We did a few more sentences with cabeza/corazón. Then we used a Kahoot for practice and instead of
being on computer, the class moved from one side of the room to the other to show the answers. Don't forget the
test on Tuesday. Details are on GC.

February 12: Everyone chose how they wanted to prepare for the test tomorrow: study alone with or without a
laptop, teacher-led practice on white boards, partner practice on white boards. Make sure you know all of the
cabeza and corazón verbs and phrases and which group they belong to for tomorrow. You know the ones you
don't study will end up on your test, so know them all. Look over basic vocabulary and other verbs that you can
  use in clause 2.

February 13: We took our summative test over using subjunctive with cabeza and corazón.

February 14: We took notes on our new situation with the subjunctive, referring to incomplete or indefinite action
with adverbial clauses. Notes are posted on GC along with notes for the future tense, since future tense will be
greatly involved in this situation. Also, Quizlet sets for the adverbial connectors we need to know to function with
this and the irregular future tense verbs that we need to review.

February 15: We watched another episode of our show that is made for Spanish learners. Remember your quiz for
next Wednesday over the adverbial connectors.

February 20: We copied, defined and pronounced new vocabulary sets for our unit on global challenges in the
environment. We will finish the other sets tomorrow. We have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow over the 13 adverbial
connectors in our notes. Quizlet set available on GC and Quizlet. The extra one on the set can be bonus. Also,
bonus points can be earned tomorrow for irregular future tense spelling and the future tense endings. Quizlet
set for the irregulars also on GC and Quizlet. The first quiz over the new vocabulary will be on Friday, Feb 23,
this week and continue on to Mon/Wed/Fri/Mon after that.

February 21: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took a vocabulary quiz over the adverbial
connectors we will be using with the subjunctive. We continued copying, defining and pronouncing the new
vocabulary from Unidad 3, which focuses on global challenges in the environment.

February 22: We finished the last set of vocabulary words for Unidad 3. The quiz schedule is posted with the
Quizlet sets on GC. Sets are also available on the Quizlet app. We started looking at the information in the
textbook using this vocabulary to discuss challenges we face in the environment on pp 150-152.

February 23: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took a quiz over set 1 of Unidad 3 vocabulary.

together focusing on that. Don't forget our quiz over set 2 on Monday.

February 26: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took a quiz over set 2 of Unidad 3. We used the
laptops to work on Padlet today, posting original sentences using adverbial connectors and the subjunctive. Our
next quiz is Wednesday over Unidad 3, set 3.

Friday. We did a practice activity after that using the subjunctive in adverbial clauses.

February 29: We discussed the answers to the practice exercise we completed yesterday and worked out any
confusion with using the subjunctive and our adverbial connectors.

March 1: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then took the quiz over Unidad 3, set 4. Set 5 will be next
Wednesday. We read one short article in the book about the importance of protecting endangered species. Being
a half day, this is all we did in class today.

March 5: We continued on with reading articles in our book on the environment and making use of our vocabulary
in context between pp 165 and 176. We will have a quiz over Unidad 3, set 5 tomorrow. This is the last quiz for the
given vocabulary, but we are writing lots of additional vocabulary that comes from what we read. You can use any
of those words as bonus points. They will be useful later on in our project.

March 6: We studied for a couple minutes for focus and then did an oral activity focusing on using the adverbial
  connectors and the subjunctive.

March 7: We read some articles from the book that showed how to use some of our new vocabulary. We copied
new terms into our vocabulary for this unit. Be on the look out for articles, videos, shows, etc. about the
environment. We will be doing a project soon. Also, we will have a test next Tuesday over the adverbial

craft original sentences that use the given connector and the subjunctive, similar to the cabeza/corazón test.

March 8: We reviewed the expectations for the test on Tuesday by reading through the Google Classroom post and
looking at what is attached there for studying purposes. We did practice work towards being ready for the test.

March 11: For further preparation for our test tomorrow, we practiced several different ways using the adverbial

little YouTube videos about them. We will start working on our project tomorrow focusing on researching updated
information for the issues we have been discussing and reading about in different articles from textbooks. We
will have time in class for researching and then some time to prepare for presenting the information. We will
start presenting on April 1st. People on the band trip will have to present that first day because they will be out
