Georgia’s Dual Enrollment Program is available to any Georgia student in grades 11 and 12. Students in grade 10 have limited opportunities to dual enroll and must meet additional eligibility requirements. The dual enrollment program allows students to earn high school course credits while taking college courses. Please check out the resources below and see your school counselor for more information.
The dual enrollment process is a lengthy one. Be proactive and start early to stay successful. Students planning to dual enroll in the fall semester should conduct research, meet with their counselor, apply, and take necessary entrance exams early in the spring semester prior to the fall in which they want to dual enroll. Students planning to dual enroll in the spring semester should start the process at the beginning of the fall semester before the spring semester when they want to dual enroll.
A successful dual enrollment student has excellent time management, communication, and self-advocacy skills. Further, the student should be ready to move on to college-level classes and be prepared to face academic consequences if they perform poorly in college. Additionally, students should weigh the effects of dual enrollment on their cumulative GPA, class rank, and college acceptance. For example, reach out to the post-secondary institution you plan on attending after high school and inquire about their admissions statistics and if dual enrollment is a good idea for your degree program. It is also important to remember that the college you attend as a dual enrollment student may not have the same holidays or semester schedule as EHS, so be sure to keep your calendar or personal planner up to date!
