Spanish 4

August 3: Today we were just a reinforcing and reassuring voice for the AP class as we started to
  unpack what they will have to do all year. We will start with some grammar review designed for 
  your needs and then move on to other areas of interest.
 
August 4: We started grammar review today on the subjunctive since that was an area of 
  weakness last year. We will continue with that for a couple more days.
 
August 7: We continued with the grammar review over the subjunctive. 
 
August 8: We continued with review of the subjunctive.
 
August 9: We continued with review of the subjunctive.
 
August 10: We continued with review of the subjunctive.
 
August 11: We continued with review of the subjunctive.
 
August 14: We continued with the review of subjunctive.
 
August 15: Almost finished with review of the subjunctive. We will work on an Hispanic Heritage
  presentation next for Hispanic Heritage Month. This will be a presentation for the AP class and
  for the other level classes as well. 
 
August 16: We finished with the subjunctive review. We will move on to the Hispanic heritage 
  month project starting tomorrow.
 
August 17: We started the Hispanic heritage project today. 
 
August 18: We continued with our project.

August 23: We continued with our project.
 
August 24: We continued with our project.

August 31: We did not have class today due to incentive day activities this period.
 
September 1: With the early release schedule, there wasn't much time to work today. We will
  continue working on the Hispanic Heritage Month project through Sept 8. 
 
September 5: We continued working on the project. We should be done by Friday. 
 
September 6: We worked towards finishing the project. 
 
September 7: We worked on finishing the project for tomorrow.
 
September 8: We turned in our project and discussed what we will do next. 
 
September 11: We practiced our presentation for Thursday.
 
September 12: We practiced our presentation for Thursday. 
 
September 13: We finished getting ready for presentation to the AP class tomorrow.
 
September 14: We presented the Hispanic Heritage project to the AP class.
 
September 15: We started working on our next project related to indigenous languages by choosing languages to 
  research.
 
September 18: We started research on indigenous languages today. 
 
September 19-October 12: We are working on the indigenous languages project towards a presentation to the AP
  class on October 12. 
 
October 12: We presented information about indigenous languages to the AP class today. 
 
October 13: We worked with the AP class during their poem recitations today. Monday we will start working with 
  some short stories by Gabriel García Márquez. 
 
October 16: We started a short story, Un día de éstos, by Márquez today. See GC for the list of study questions that
  will help you be ready for the final assessment. The vocabulary on the assessment will come from the footnoted  
  terms throughout the story.
 
October 17: We continued working, as much as we could, on the short story despite interruptions and being sent
  to another classroom, etc. 
 
October 18: We continued working on the short story, comprehension questions and vocabulary.
 
October 19 - October 25: We will continue working on the short story, comprehension questions and vocabulary
  through next Tuesday, October 24. We will take our final test over it on Wednesday, October 25. 
 
October 25: We took our test over the story today. We will start a new story tomorrow.
 
October 26: We started on a new Márquez story - Un señor muy viejo con alas enormes. We will read the story, 
  answer the study questions and hopefully take the test next Monday. Please study the noted vocabulary 
  highlighted throughout the story. These words will be in the vocabulary section of the test.
 
October 27 - November 8: We will continue working on the new Márquez story. On Thursday, November 9 we will
  take the test over it and turn in the completed study questions. 
 
November 9: We took our test over the story today and turned in the study questions. 
 
November 13-17: We helped the AP class with their speak week activity today. We will do that most days this week
  for encouragement and also to even the numbers. Plus, we need speaking practice too.
 
November 27: Today we focused on reading biographical information on Gabriel García Márquez. We will start a 
  new short story tomorrow. The next test will include questions over the bio info on the author.
 
November 28 - December 12: We started Buen viaje, señor presidente today. We will be working on this and the
  questions for it through the rest of the semester. Depending on whether or not we are taking an exam, we will have
  a test on this before break. If we are taking the exam, we will test on this for the exam. The study questions are 
  posted on GC. Keep checking that document because more questions will be added along the way.
 
December 13: We took our test over Buen viaje, señor presidente today. We will not have an exam because the 
  whole class exempted. Happy holidays and have a great break!
 
January 4: We chatted with the AP class. We will start new material tomorrow.
 
January 5: We will move forward with some Spanish history starting next week. Today we participated in the art 
  discussion in the AP class. 
 
January 8- January 31: We now have directions for studying Spain's golden age. We will be working on this project
  from today through January 30. At that time we will schedule a date for a presentation to the AP class.
 
February 5 - 19: We will be working on a culinary project. Choose two recipes, each from a distinct region of Spain,
  and make them. You will be making a video of the process, speaking in Spanish. If you wish, you can bring the
  food in to share with the class, but this is not required. In between, we will do some literature.
 
February 12-15: We will be reviewing the formation and use of commands which you will have to use in your videos.
  See GC for notes and a chart of irregulars, plus the requirements for the culinary project.
 
February 21: We presented the results of the culinary project today: paella valenciana, Basque cheesecake and a
  lime-flavored drink from Latin America.
 
February 22: We participated in the grammar review that AP was doing.
 
February 23-March 14: We will do a research project on the variations in spoken Spanish throughout the Spanish-
  speaking world.
 
March 15: We presented our research on the sounds of Spanish in different regions to the AP class today.
 
March 18-19: Open days to prepare for senior project presentation. Tomorrow we will participate in the composition
  contest.
 
March 20: We participated in the statewide composition contest today.
 
March 21-April 24: We will work on a project focusing on the history of the Basque region in Spain.
 
April 24: We presented the results of the Basque project to AP today.
 
April 25 - end of school: We will be reading and quizzing over Lazarillo de Tormes, a Spanish novel.
